Abstract: The intrinsic Laplacian operator plays a central role in geometry processing, editing, and analysis. However, intrinsic approaches cannot capture the spatial embedding (extrinsic geometry) of a shape. Instead, I will discuss the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator, whose spectrum (known as the Steklov eigenvalues), encodes extrinsic geometry information. The use of this operator provides a principled approach to analyze and process extrinsic and volumetric geometries.
