Sustainability, Optimisation and energy

Speaker: Wim van Ackooij (wim.van-ackooij@edf.fr)
Location: Grace Hopper room
Date: Thu, 7 Mar 2024, 13:00-14:00

In this talk we will discuss how optimization plays a key role in sustainably operating the electrical energy system. We will discuss key characteristics of the system that ought to be accounted for. We will illustrate some of the technical points and the need for further research on two key problems.

Short bio: Wim van Ackooij received his Habilitation (HdR) from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2017. He has worked in the energy sector for over 20 years at the intersection of theory, practice and algorithms in optimization. His research interest are optimization in energy management, stochastic programming and more specifically around probabilistic constraints. He is currently a member of the Committee on Stochastic Programming (COSP). He currently works for EDF Lab Paris-Saclay and previously gave courses at the university of Paris-Sud 11. He currently teaches at ENSTA and ENPC.
