The Operations Research Modeling & Analytics (ORMA) Group at CSX is hiring for multiple positions in three areas: optimization, simulation or data mining. The positions require motivated, qualified candidates of any level, from entry to experienced professionals. Candidates will be considered for a position level that best matches their skills and experience.

 

The OR Scientist will interact with internal customers across all organizations of the company to identify business requirements and plan the best course of actions to meet their needs. He/she will develop decision support systems, manage implementation, and provide ongoing support and maintenance.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

        Formulate mathematical models and optimization, simulation and/or data mining methods by using (or developing) requisite software for strategic, tactical, and operational decision making.
        Utilize computer programming skills and relational database systems to develop applications.   
        Depending on the area of focus, the candidate should have theoretical, as well as practical knowledge, of:
            Optimization:  mixed integer programming, heuristics and meta-heuristics, and network algorithms.
            Simulation: agent-based, discrete-event, and continuous simulations.
            Data mining: correlation, clustering, association analysis, sequence analysis, time series analysis, etc.
        Work closely with CSX Technology to convert ORMA tool prototypes into production systems.
        Rollout new ORMA tools and train end users.
        Provide analytical and modeling support to various company initiatives.
        Participate in and/or manage collaborations with universities and external consultants.
        Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

 
Qualifications
 Minimum Qualifications

    Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Operations Research or Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related major field of study

    1 or more years of experience implementing models in any of the following: optimization, simulation and/or data mining 

 
Preferred Qualifications

    PhD from an accredited institution in Operations Research or Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field
    1 or more years of experience in Relational database systems
    1 or more years of experience in object oriented programming

Knowledge and Skills

    Knowledge of Visual Studio and/or Eclipse
    Knowledge of C#, Python, C++ and/or Java  
    Knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle and/or MySQL

    Specialization specific skills
            Optimization:  Gurobi, ILOG CPLEX, Coin-OR
            Simulation: AnyLogic, Arena, ProModel
            Data mining: SAS, R, Hadoop, Text Mining, Stream Data Mining, Machine Vision
    Excellent communication and presentation skills
