We are looking for an exceptional operations research professional who is passionate about the customer experience, who thinks/acts globally, and who has the ability to contribute major innovations in the industry to join us as Operations Research Scientist with the Worldwide Customer Service Operations Research team (WWCS OR).

As a member of the WWCS OR team, you will be responsible for developing methodologies to optimize the strategic, tactical and operational aspects of CS capacity planning for Amazon.com. Duties include:
• Providing business analysis using mathematical modeling tools to answer important questions for Customer Service operations
• Advancing the global standardization and process optimization initiatives of capacity planning and operations that involve forecasting, long-term headcount planning, short-term planning, scheduling, and real-time adjustments.
• Utilizing code (Java, C++, R, Python, Mosel, Xpress, or another object oriented language, scripting language or mathematical modeling language) for modeling (optimization, simulation, statistical)
• Partnering closely with many groups such as operations, IT, workflow, and finance teams to support various business initiatives
• Effectively communicating with senior management as well as with colleagues from operations and business backgrounds
Basic Qualifications
• Graduate degree in operations research, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR a PhD and 2+ years of related work experience
• Ability to code system prototypes in an object oriented language or scripting/modeling language
• Practical knowledge of mathematical programming, simulation and statistical techniques
• Experience with mathematical and modeling libraries like CPLEX, XPRESS, R
• Experience with relational databases and SQL
• Familiarity with software development processes
• Skilled at data visualization and presentation
• Excellent critical thinking skills, combined with the ability to present your beliefs clearly and compellingly in both verbal and written form.


Preferred Qualifications
• PhD highly desired
• Project management experience desired for working on cross-functional projects with ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize tasks
• Familiarity with quantitative capacity planning concepts - forecasting, optimization, and logistics including planning under uncertainty, sensitivity analysis and robust optimization - gained through work experience or graduate level education
• Technical aptitude and familiarity with the design and use of commercial optimization software systems
• Experience working effectively with software engineering teams
• Energy and willingness to formulate, test, validate, and discard or revise many hypotheses and models to help Amazon improve its customer service operations.
• Strong desire to push ideas into production, overcoming obstacles, in order to benefit Amazon's customers.
