Laboratoire d'informatique de l'École polytechnique

Chairs of Research and Education

The École polytechnique organizes privileged collaborations with the industrial world in the form of Research and Education Chairs (chaires d’enseignement et de recherche). LIX is involved in many of these plans.

Internet of Everything

The international chair “Internet of Everything”, which commenced in September 2014, is a research and education chair dedicated to the Internet of tomorrow. With more than 50 billion connected appliances in 2020, a new internet is appearing in the form of internet of everything (IoE). This chair is involved major strategic stakes in terms of growth, competitivity, and employment. The chair is sponsored by Cisco France.

The chair is associated with the master school Advanced Communication Networks (ACN) in parternership with Telecom-ParisTech.

Complex System Engineering

The “Complex System Engineering” (ingénierie des systèmes complexes) chair, formed since 2003, is one of the components of a scientific partnership between the Thalès Group and the École polytechnique. The chair currently drives a collection of teaching, research, and vulgarisation activities concerning the design and development of complex systems with significant software constituents (e.g., embedded systems and information systems).

This chair is associated with the master school on the conception and management of complex information systems (Conception et Management des Systèmes Informatiques Complexes) (COMASIC) in partnership with the École Centrale Paris, the Institut national des sciences et techniques nucléaires, the École Supérieure d’Electricité (Supélec), Telecom Paristech, and the University of Southern Paris (XI).

Data Science for Insurance Sector

The “Data Science for Insurance Sector” chair has two objectives: to support research and to promote project-based training of student-engineers and students of the École polytechnique related to new technologies (e.g., machine learning, risk management) that will allow to free the potential of big data for the insurance industry.

In the scope of this chair, AXA Global Direct and the École polytechnique proposes numerous research topics and team-based projects by the students and student-engineers on the application of machine learning and big data to the problems of the insurance sector.

Blockchain & plateformes B2B

Integrated Urban Mobility

École Polytechnique and Uber have joined forces to create the “Integrated Urban Mobility” chair. The aim of this collaboration is to carry out projects related to the modelling of transport demand based on machine learning, the simulation of dense air traffic management at low altitudes, the integration of innovative transport solutions in airspace and the development of smart grids to power future fleets of electric air and land transport.
