The area to the south and west of IHES, i.e., in the direction
opposite to Paris, has numerous points of interests including
the Chateau de Breteuil a castle 12 kilometers from the IHES,
the Chateau de Dampierre, a Versailles-like castle, 15 kilometers
from the IHES, or the city of
Chevreuse
which gives its name to the Vallee de Chevreuse,
the region containing Bures-sur-Yvette.
Of course, there is also the Chateau de Versailles, which is easily accessible by taking the RER B to Massy-Palaiseau, and then taking the RER C to Versailles, see the RER map .
It is simple to reach these places by car, with which one can make numerous excursions or by bicycle. However, public transportation has been limited. Recently, a bus service has been established which allows one to visit these various sites. It is called the Baladobus . It runs on Sundays from May to October, and leaves from the RER station in St. Remy-les-Chevreuse, the last stop on the RER line from Paris to Bures, see the RER map .
Below is a schedule of the Baladobus.

read the fine print. I have also left copies
in the tea room, as well as a visitor's guide to the
Vallee de Chevreuse.
