Advices for visiting Cambodia

You should limit night time travel around Phnom Penh, Sihanouk Ville and Siem Reap to well-lit public areas and travel in groups. It is safer to travel by car rather than motorbike or cyclo (cycle-rickshaw) at night.

You should take precautions including the use of a helmet and protective clothing when traveling on a motorcycle or motor-scooter as either a driver or passenger.

Credit cards are not widely accepted in Cambodia. Credit card cash advances and travelers' check cashing services are available at banks in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanouk Ville for a fee. Limited ATM facilities are available in Phnom Penh.

While traveling, don't carry too much cash and remember that expensive watches, jewelries and cameras may be tempting targets for thieves.

Penalties for drug offences, including those involving "soft drugs", are severe and include lengthy imprisonment in local jails.
