Après les déclarations de l'un de nos collègues dans le numéro du 17 novembre du journal Haaretz qui ont blessé beaucoup d'entre nous, nous enseignants, chercheurs et personnels de l'École polytechnique, tenons à déclarer publiquement notre désacord profond avec ces propos, ainsi qu'avec l'idéologie qui les anime.

Nous tenons, au contraire, à affirmer notre fidélité aux valeurs issues des Lumières qui guident l'École depuis sa fondation et qui l'amènent, par exemple, à intégrer vingt pour cent d'élèves étrangers à chaque promotion, ainsi que de nombreux élèves français de la première génération. L'esprit qui nous anime est un esprit de coopération à l'opposé du projet colonial que l'interview en question décrit comme celui "d'amener la civilisation aux sauvages".

Cette diversité nationale, culturelle, religieuse et sociale de ses élèves, enseignants, chercheurs et personnels est une grande richesse pour l'École polytechnique, que chacun d'entre nous doit veiller scrupuleusement à ne pas mettre en péril.

We, teachers, researchers and staff members of the École polytechnique, wish to register publicly our strong opposition to the statements made, concerning the recent riots in France, by one of our colleagues in the November 17th issue of Haaretz. We reject the views expressed and the ideology that lies behind them.

Furthermore, we affirm our commitment to the enlightened values that have guided our school since its foundation and have led to, amongst other things, the recruitment of twenty percent of our students from abroad, as well as the inclusion of many first generation French students. The spirit of cooperation that animates us is the exact opposite of the colonial project described in the interview as "bringing civilization to the savages".

The diversity of nationality, culture, religion and social background of our students, faculty, researchers and staff is a great richness of the École Polytechnique, one that each of us must carefully protect.
