Fall 98, CSE 468: Abut the midterm
- It will take place on 27 Oct 98, 8:15-10:15pm in 267 Willard.
- It's a "closed book" exam.
- The questions will be on the material presented during classes 1-19
(Chapters 1-6
of Martin's book).
- Preparation for the midterm: The following is a list of exercises
from Martin's book which I consider particularly representative
of the material studied so far. I would recomment them as a minimal
basis for the exam. Of course, you are encouraged
to try also exercises out of this
list: the more exercises you solve, the more chances you have
to get an higher grade.
- 1.9, 1.10, 1.26, 1.41
- 2.1, 2.5, 2.19, 2.34, 2.35, 2.41, 2.42, 2.43
- 3.1, 3.7, 3.8, 3.16, 3.19, 3.21, 3.23, 3.25, 3.30, 3.41, 3.42
- 4.6, 4.8, 4.12, 4.17, 4.29, 4.31, 4.32, 4.38, 4.39, 4.40
- 5.2, 5.5, 5.10, 5.22, 5.24, 5.25, 5.26, 5.35, 5.37, 5.38, 5.42, 5.43
- 6.4, 6.6, 6.10, 6.12, 6.13, 6.22, 6.24, 6.25, 6.29, 6.43, 6.44
You can find the solutions (at least partially) of
all the above exercises in the "Solutions Manual",
except for 3.16. Note that the solution of 5.24(a) is wrong.
- An ancient proverb says "If you know that you don't know,
you are already a step ahead on the way to knowledge".
Following this principle, the midterm offers a
bonus for "no answer": If you
don't know the solution to one question, you may choose
to give "no answer" (by leaving blank the space for the solution).
For each question to which you give no answer you will receive a
bonus of 10% of the maximum score for that question.
If you start writing the answer, and later you wish you had left it
blank, just draw a line over your answer and write the word "BLANK" in
big letters.
